Early this morning (around 5:25 a.m.), a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck just southeast of Spearman. It was felt as far as Amarillo, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. As of this posting, no damage or injuries have been reported but we want our residents prepared, not surprised. Aftershocks are likely. Earthquakes this size are often followed by smaller aftershocks for days, sometimes weeks. Most will be minor, but stay alert.
If you feel shaking:
*Drop, Cover, and Hold On — get under sturdy furniture, protect your head/neck, hold on until shaking stops
*If you're in bed, stay there and cover your head with a pillow
*If outdoors, move away from buildings, power lines, and trees
*If driving, pull over away from overpasses/bridges and stay in the vehicle until shaking stops
After an aftershock:
*Check yourself and others for injuries before checking property
*Inspect your home for gas leaks (smell of gas, hissing sound), damaged wiring, and structural cracks
*Check chimneys, water heaters, and shelving for shifting or damage
*Keep an eye on kids and pets, who may be frightened
SMELL GAS?
Leave the house immediately, don't flip any switches or light anything, and call the City of Spearman at 806-659-2524 to report it. DO NOT TRY TO SHUT THE GAS OFF.
We're monitoring USGS updates and will share anything new as it comes in. For gas leaks or utility issues, call 806-659-2524. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911.
Stay safe, and look out for your neighbors especially the elderly.

We are still able to accept payments inside the office during regular business hours. If you are unable to come inside, you may place your payment in the overnight drop box after 5:00 PM today.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The Landfill will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th, so our employees can enjoy this special occasion with their families.
As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, courage, and American spirit, we honor those who have served and sacrificed to protect the liberties we enjoy today.
Don't forget to support the Spearman Volunteer Fire Association at their 1st annual fundraiser! Join them at the Swimming Pool Park on Saturday afternoon and into the evening for a great time filled with food, family fun, fellowship, and fireworks.

Family Night's are back at the Spearman Municipal Pool!
Family Night is designed for families who may not be able to visit the pool during the day. We invite you to come spend an evening together, enjoying the pool and making fun memories with your loved ones!
We will be strictly following our Family Night policy this year. While we've been a little more relaxed in previous years, moving forward:
*** All minors (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult family member who is 18 years of age or older.
*** Children who are dropped off without an adult family member present will not be permitted into pool.
Our goal is to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone attending Family Night. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and look forward to seeing your family at the pool!
